1st 2nd and 3rd year students took part in an inters school tournament last Friday in Erins Isle GAA club. Training for the event had taken place the previous 4 weeks and teams hit the ground running with some great clashes from the outset. With the teams evenly matched, it seemed as if the Munster team managed by Mr Glynn had the strongest side with Captain Patrick McCann giving a fine display in the opening match and sent the other 3 teams scrambling for tactics after he opened the first match with a fine tally. The Ulster side managed by Mr Molloy had the best team on paper and with some fantastic players captained by Michael Reilly they reached the cup final but were outclassed by a fine Connaught team managed by Mr Clarke who implemented a tactical masterclass and showed real composure to come back from 2 points down at half time and to win the cup final. Lucas Kotterman lifted the trophy for his Connaught side along with Martin Joyce and his Leinster team in the shield final. Mr Heverans side showing some real class to edge out Munster in their tremendous battle and avenge their loss from the first match. A fantastic day out as 4th year students assisted managers and thank you to 6th year students Lauren and Jamie who made their GAA referring debuts and put in a great shift. Well done to everyone and the future of Gaelic Football looks very bright for New Cross College
