Dear Parent(s)/Gaurdian(s),
In light of the Minister for Education & Skills Mr Joe McHugh’s announcement yesterday regarding the cancellation of the Leaving examination for 2020 we are sure there are lot of questions you may wish to ask. The government have compiled a frequently asked questions (FAQs) in relation to this which can be accessed using the following link. https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/2f07eb-leaving-cert-2020-information/#information-for-leaving-cert-students
Guidelines have been issued to schools for the Calculated Grading of Leaving Certificate Students 2020 which is explained in the poster which can be accessed at using the following link: https://www.gov.ie/pdf/?file=https://assets.gov.ie/74094/5866cff28d534c4293388da83070149e.pdf#page=1
Teachers have been instructed that following directives issued by Minister McHugh that they cannot communicate with students on any aspect in relation to the grading system. It is important that students respect this and don’t engage in any form of communication with their teachers in relation to grades.
We accept that this is a very sad way for the class of 2020 to finish with school life and that they are missing out on a number of traditional celebrations associated with finishing school in New Cross College. Graduation from secondary school is a wonderful sense of achievement which they have been deprived of this month and it is something that we will endeavour to correct for them in the future.
While they are finished school, we are still here to support them until the end of the school term on May 29th. If they require access to Guidance Counselling or any other pastoral supports their year head Ms O Brien is available, myself and Ms McManus are also available as is our Guidance Counsellor Ms Maher. We can be contacted by using the following email addresses or leaving a message on the school number 01 8343165. mobrien@newcross.ie principal@newcross.ie pmacmanus@newcross.ie dmaher@newcross.ie
We hope that the announcement yesterday gives closure to the worries that students were experiencing.
I conclude by thanking you all for engaging with school life over the past number of difficult weeks and offer you and your families our best wishes from all in our school community in New Cross College.
Yours sincerely
Derek Lynch
Principal
